[Article from the News-press: “Thrift shop reveals mission of One Way Out in Fort Myers”]
The little thrift shop Second Chance Upscale Resale has existed for years opposite Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Fort Myers, but Saturday the owners threw open its doors to tell the community their story.
The organization behind the store is One Way Out, a ministry of First Assembly of God in Fort Myers. The woman who dreamed it all is Jeanie Turner, who 10 years ago started helping women who were hurting.
One Way Out remains under the church’s umbrella but just got its tax-exempt status. Saturday’s festivities were meant to mark a new period in the organization’s history and raise public awareness about the shop and the cause it represents.
Turner said she had turned to God during her recovery from alcoholism and wanted a way to help women. Her efforts started with exotic dancers. She’d slip into clubs and leave women little gifts, her card and a promise she’d be there for them if they ever needed help or decided they wanted out.
